Brunch @ 1-TwentySix

Egg's Benedict. 6 out of 7 days. ALMOST Prive's standard. For some strange unknown reason I still can't bring myself to put this on par with Prive's.

126 Burger. Better than wild rocket's burger! The patty is damn juicy, and paired with the sweet bun --> ORGASM!

Dinner @ Forty Hands
(we ordered a Mocha but the photo is in Daemon. It was very refreshing; non-bitter and not overly chocolatey)

Egg's Benedict. 1 out of 7 days. Horrible eggs, horrible ham, overly salty hollandaise.

Salted Cod Mash Sandwich. DELISH. this deserves a 7 out of 7 days. Plus it costs only $9.

Truffle Fries. Not as flavorful as Raindrops Cafe's

Supper @ Rochor Beancurd

Tau huay. YumZ

Homemade Peking Duck

All the way from Beijing! But a rather disappointing piece of duck

Dapao-ed Tze Char @ Holland Village XO Fosh Head Bee Hoon

Awesome food in the comfort of awesome sofa and awesome air-con!

Prawn paste chicken. DAMN GOOD.

Dinner @ Xin Cuisine

Peking duck. Delightfully crispy skin.

All time personal favorite: WASABI PRAWN. nice crispy batter enveloping crunchy prawns drenched in Wasabi mayonnaise.

Late night dinner @ Noodle House Ken

Very traditional place.

Cold Ramen in Sasami Sauce. O-M-G. Their noodles are chewy and springy, and paired with the sauce it tasted like the ultimate soba EVER (just that it's ramen in this case). Very very interesting rendition of the old ramen tradition.

Shio Ramen. The broth is very light (Tokyo style). I much prefer heavier ones like Santouka's.

- also had Peking Duck @ Taste Paradise, but the photos are in Daemon. The door woman chuckled when I told her "今天没有吃点心". :p

Grad Trip 1: Turkey
Smile
[info]persmega

- not intending to Describe my first graduation trip in detail here coz I made a journal of it already, less the photos. In short: SCENIC UNTILLLLLL. but the food isn't and would never be a favorite of mine. Turkey is a country you'll visit only once in your life :)

- carried on my usual lifestyle immediately after I touched down. It was rather draining on that particular day; half zombie mode.

- Imperial Treasure Nan Bei Restaurant serves good dimsum, but not as well as the paradise restaurants. To note is their 叉烧酥 and custard bun, both of which are way above average. Our complaints were that they were too sweet and too thick respectively.

Buttery and Flaky.

- I think I missed dimsum so much I felt twice the joy I usually feel when munching the flaky skin of the BBQ pork pastry. Oh Chinese food how divine thy are.

- watched three movies so far: Micmacs, Dylan Dog, Pirates. The former is GOOD, and pirates is meh- so-so. Dylan Dog on the other hand, really pushes the limit of how BAD a movie can be!!! The graphics were so lousy that even if the movie were to be released 10 years ago it would put the not-so-advanced technology back then to COMPLETE SHAME. Werewolves with a face that is obviously a human with a mask?? CMON LA WALAOEH. and Brandon Routh has completely lost his body since his Superman and Chuck days.

- Santouka ramen satisfied my ramen cravings with an added tinge of happiness. Slurp.

Miso Ramen.

- my current philosophy is: After every non-paradise dimsum meal, must go to either Taste Paradise or Paradise Pavilion within one week. And so I did today. We had more than just the usual awesomeness that are 叉烧酥,Mango Roll, Ha Kau, SiewMai Skewers (yes skewers, instead of just steaming it, they grill it to give an extra crisp that is TMD worth the grease), Black Truffle Pie, Dragon Beard Flaky Roll. We ordered Wasabi Prawn, and DeepFried Durian Ice Cream, both of which are HEAVENLY. the Wasabi prawn is done to perfect crunchiness and enveloped in thick green sauce that is creamy and gives off a slight jolt from the Wasabi. The durian ice cream is not your $1-pushcart-uncle kind of standard; it tastes like normal durian, and when eaten with the crispy batter that is its shell: TEARS OF JOY. okok fine that was a tad bit too dramatic. But it was really that good :D

串烧烧卖.

Durian Ice Cream with Mango Purée.

- I can seriously join walkathon and win it loh if there's such an event in Singapore. We walked all the way from Marina Bay Link Mall all the way to Shaw House.

- IMAX 3D is an utter waste of money. I don't see the need to foot the premium price of watching in an IMAX theatre; other than the curved screen, there isn't any special effect whatsoever leh to the movie watching experience. Wad a bull. And it also reminded me why I stopped watching movies in 3D a long time ago- eye-straining, irritable at the nose bridge, waste money.

- Tetsu Restaurant. My second visit to the place. The dragon roll was average; rather have sushi tie's anytime. Their katsu was decent, though I prefer tonkichi's coz Tetsu's deep fried food was very oily and it was evident both on our plates as well as in the mouth. Their chicken was good though coz we mistook it for pork until we tried to identify each breaded item LOL.

Oil goodness. YumZ

- carrying a dragonboat paddle was kinda fun. I get more stares than the usual :p

Zoom and Flash
Smile
[info]persmega

- played badminton and realized we deproved like ALOT. air was our second shuttlecock; we kept missing our target and this seldom occur in the past when we were *ehem* younger.

- smith's fish and chips. Creamy Dory around crispy batter. Beats battered cod and haddock- these fish are better steamed/grilled IMHO. The fries that came with it is fat and mushy; ultimate delish!!

Dory and Chips. *FINGER LICKING GOOD*

- Tonkichi was OMG-best-tonkatsu-ever!!!! Had the tonkatsu platter that consisted of pork loin, pork fillet, prawn, and oyster. We ordered an additional crab croquettes and Aburi Salmon roll. Each of the proteins was coated with a nice thin layer of batter with crispy breadcrumbs around it. Though deep-fried, they didn't taste the least bit oily! Comfort food to the max.

Agemono. Plus tartar and yellow Wasabi as dipping sauce.

Aburi Salmon Roll

Crab croquettes. Creamy and yummy.

- had Mango Shaved Snow Ice for dessert at Sweet Sweet Tooth located at the Marina Link- a passageway connecting marina square and Esplanade Xchange. The consistency of the snow ice is like an ultra thin sheet of tissue. Better than Ion's Mei Hong Yuan. Pity they don't serve durian one though.

Tissue goodness!

- Paradise Dynasty and Taste Paradise at one go for lunch. Ordered the Ginseng XLB today (plus 锅贴) and then hopped over to Taste for our usual fix of 叉烧酥, mango roll, and 流沙包. The female receptionist recognized me!! She was like "每次来但我还需要问" when I said my name is Kelvin Tan. I think I'm one of the few shabbily dressed ones who patronize the restaurant. New friend HAHA

Ginseng 小笼包.

love.

Lava consistency!

- collected Daemon's sister! She is still unnamed, and I was shocked to see the body to be the PROGRAM type (fawn!! I am
Clueless as to the extra function!). Cleaned the zoom lens, which provided a slight element of zoom that is sufficient for macro close-up shots. Plus the flash that came with it is useful, though it requires 4 AA batteries, making the camera SUPER HEAVY. daemon's new clothes heh.

- late dinner at Crystal Jade Kitchen at holland. Refused to order their inferior dimsum and opted for half a Peking duck (decent, though I liked the utility of crepe instead of the traditional popish skin), Wasabi prawn (delicious crunchy prawns with a delicate Wasabi touch! Surprising for a non-Atas CJ restaurant), and their 麦片虾 (cereal prawns. Not fantastic). He was feeling quesy and I ended up consuming almost all the food on the table. Oh and there was also the duck meat from the duck we ordered. Somehow I didn't feel full from the massive gluttony :x

Deep fried prawn in Wasabi sauce. YumZ

Cereal prawn. Meh

- flying off tmr! Excited much. Will be my longest ever in the plane. ELEVEN HOURS. god bless me.

CELEBRATION
Smile
[info]persmega

- eat, eat, and eat. Pretty much sums up what I have been doing ever since University officially ended.

- Peking duck from Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck Restaurant. Delish!!

- 2, 3, 2, and 2 bags of popcorn for Arthur, Biutiful, Thor (rewatch), and Umizaru 3 respectively. Digging for shiny Cathay popcorn rox! The original story of Arthur is actually kinda inspiring. The main actor really spoiled the goodness of the show and made the movie seem like a senseless joke. Biutiful is dam depressing and sort of dissuaded me from visiting Barcelona (although he said it looks nothing like the environment portrayed in the movie). 2nd sitting of Thor was surprisingly entertaining. Love Portman's quirkiness. Umizaru 3 was damn touching!! Despite its lack of crazy-ass graphics like Hollywood's disaster movies, the actor played his part well in delivering the bravery and selflessness of his character (and he's damn hot).

- Revisited Raindrops Cafe. They changed their entire menu; it now comes in the form of a booklet rather than just a piece of paper. Ordered four appetizers coz both of us felt that the main courses and pastas looked too heavy. Tataki Tuna, Truffle Fries, Fried Calamari, Fried Drumlet and Wings. To note is the shoestring fries. YUM.

Tataki Tuna

Truffle shoestring fries.

- Dimsum at Canton-i was BAD. only their purple-colored custard bun and egg tarts were good, but is still far from Taste's standard. I see no point in making a Tau Sar Pao look cute when it tastes like crap.

Yam colored 流沙包

Lemongrass Jasmine Tea

- decided to visit Taste Paradise's sister restaurant: Paradise Pavilion. OH MY GAWD THE 叉烧酥, mango prawn roll, and 流沙包 were as excellent as Taste Paradise's!! In addition to the typical dimsum, they offer new creations like Snow Baked Cha Siew Bun (which had the texture akin to Melon Pan), Truffle Chicken Pie (orgasmic pastry and juicy truffle fillings. YumZ). I'm so going back there like SOON.

Truffle Chicken Pie

My LOVE. 叉烧酥.

Snow Baked Bun with 叉烧 fillings. So cute an innocent looking.

- Sun and Moon for dinner. I have no idea why I keep patronizing Sushi Tei and Sun and Moon repeatedly when there are so many Japanese dining places to choose from!! Ok but I have to admit their Sashimi was MMMMMM *licks chopsticks*.

- she stayed over. Watched our Friday comedies, bought Soup Spoon and Herb foccacia from Swiss Bake, played monopoly deal while idling in front of the TV waiting fruitlessly for GE results (which came out 3 hours after the start of the live news telecast), fell asleep halfway coz the results announcer was fucking boring and we all agreed that his pronunciation sucks like hell, and the female newscaster looked like a zombie on television!!! DAMN FREAKY.

- dim sum brunch buffet at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant at Marriott Hotel. One word: LOUSY. only their Coffee Pork Rib was nice, and it wasn't even a dimsum dish. *2 thumbs down*. Pictures also not pretty, I refuse to post any up here. DISSATISFIED.

- Monopoly with nine. love them much.

- Had more of the Durian Pastries from Goodwood Park. Durian Crepe, Durian Puffs, Durian eclair, Durian Strudel, and Durian Ice Cream Cake. OH SO *burps*.

Mini Durian Ice Cream Cake. Durian goodness encased within a thin layer of crisp white chocolate.

- Ippudo's ramen once again. Along with Karaage with Wasabi Tartar, and Gyoza. He was damn full from the buffet and popcorn so I had the luxury of finishing the side dishes by myself. The Wasabi tartar sauce was damn awesome!! It was subtle, and the creaminess was al Dante. Of course the ramen was fantastic. I slurped everything off my bowl!

Kaarage with Wasabi Tartar.

- yes the buffet, 2 bags of popcorn, Ippudo, durian pastries all happened on the same day and it was just the two of us gluttons. Nom nom nom.

Universal Studios
Smile
[info]persmega

- Finally went to Universal Studios Singapore (USS)!! total rode 5 battlestar roller coaster. 2 humans, 3 cylons. Only attempted the mummy ride like once coz the walk from the entrance to the actual ride itself took us almost 10 minutes! The path was structured like a gigantic maze lah. Made me wonder whether the queue would ever be THAT long. It was mighty fun though. Love shrek :D

- watched Thor right after USS. Garrett popcorn AGAIN. of course the feeling of regret resurfaced again. It's a vicious cycle :x

- been having a roll in monopoly deal wheee

- watched ALL THREE of the movies on sneak preview this week. The Lost Bladesman + Fast and Furious Five + Water for Elephants. 2 bags of Cathay popcorn for each movie. Yummy. Of the 3 movies, I liked Fast Five the most (ironic since action movies aren't really my genre to watch). There was actually substantial plot beyond the crazy speeding and shooting. Water for elephants was quite nice too, except for Robert Pattinson; don't really like him.

- made brekkie for HA. lousy ham though. Stupid ntuc doesn't sell fresh ones and it didn't have any prepacked smoked salmon as well. Boo

- daikokuya ramen was nice. Their gyoza wasn't impressive though; much prefer Paradise Dynasty's.

- brunch at Relish. Their egg's Benedict was quite horrible! Bland hollandaise sauce, petty amount of smoked salmon, lousily poached eggs, unimpressive muffins. And EXPENSIVE. it was the same price that Choupinette charges, but the food quality was so bad!! 1 out of 7 days. I shall stick to their burgers when I revisit them next time. The burgers easily fetch a 5 out of 7 days.

Unflavourful Eggs Benny. Thumbs down.

- been a long time since I last ate Peck's sandwiches. Had two of them before taking a walk to Ghim Moh to get 4 packets of durian, 3 of which were downed by yours truly right after I got home. Burps.

- currently marathoning Cougar Town, a comedy that is in it's second season about the life of a divorcee and the people around her. Purely good humour

- just had a footlong of subway. Can't get enough of their soft and crunchy bread drenched in sweet onion sauce. Yumm

- bumped into 2 girls and had quite a long chat with them! How we all miss the days in London. *dreams*. Really hope my visa application gets through.

XLB Groupon Goodness
Smile
[info]persmega

- because of the awesome $7.90 groupon promotion for a basket of Paradise Dynasty's XLBs, I've been having that for dinner 2 days in a row now.
Day 1: 1 long + 2 plates of guo tie + la mian
Day 2: 2 longs + guo tie + wanton soup
Their other dumplings proved to be as superior as their XLBs. Just the right amount of thickness plus tender and flavorful pork filling. Plus they are all cheap. 7 out of 7 days.

Crab Roe and Black Truffle overload.

- had another go at Yan Ting @ St. Regis. Their menu constantly changes, and sadly the item that Ive been eyeing (deep-fried prawn dumpling) is gone. Their 叉烧酥 is indeed good as per ladyironchef's recommendation, but not enough to win my favor over Taste Paradise's. Other notable dimsum items are their prawn dishes. Fresh and crunchy prawn wrapped in delightfully thin skin either steamed or fried. Their custard buns FAILED miserably though. The custard filling was solid and didn't flow as it was supposed to. The silky mango roll dessert was soft and nice, and the egg tarts were made of flaky pastry and smooth custard. Oh and they also have one of the biggest XLB I've ever seen (the largest being the one from Nan Xiang XLB), of which the taste was not as impressive as it was visually.

At St. Regis

Silky Mango Roll

Spotty 流沙包 that has a solid custard filling. MINUS 10000 points

A worthy contender to Taste Paradise's 叉烧酥.

- daemon's problem was solved!! All it took was a change in battery. All along I was reading the meter the wrong way. When the needle points above the middle of the meter, it means that the battery is weak. Conversely, a needle pointing downwards indicates good power.

- I really hate applying for visas. It took 2 hours in total today and most of it was spent waiting and idling in the center. Mehs

- want to graduate NOW. rah

Daemon's tantrum
Smile
[info]persmega

- just collected my first film that was used when Daemon's shutter became problematic. Most of the photos are out of focus!! Expected. Some turned out fine though, but probably because they were taken at a shutter speed above 1/60. Sigh.

- Artichoke Cafe and Bar was a quaint place for my Easter Brunch. They don't serve the usual epicurean breakfast (cept for English breakfast, which has instead been named Self- Destruction on their menu). I ordered their 65-Degree Slow Cooked Eggs that came with a toast spread with a surprisingly delightful layer of hummus that had smoked salmon sandwiched between the eggs and toast. 5 out of 7 days. He had the scrambled eggs, which can almost rival that of white rabbit's.

Artichoke at Waterloo Street.

Do make a reservation. Always full during the weekends.

A middle-eastern brunch. YumZ

- security police was such a lousy show!! Even though we were confused as to the identities of ALL the characters, the show displayed lousy action scenes which were full of SLOW and non-exciting showdown between the security officers and the random thugs that approached them. As with other bad shows, the only consolation was the popcorn munching. Cathay popcorn FTW!

- kinda sian that everyone is busy nowadays with either work, school, boyfriends, or girlfriends. URGH. sucks to be jobless.

- speaking of jobs, I'm really drawn towards teaching as a career. Though everyone says that it can be as draining as a normal corporate or technical job. I dunnoooo

- tattoo?

- cute easter eggs. Heh thanks :)

- Had durian puree from the 2 stalls that are adjacent to each other at Liang Seah Street. 糖水先 and 记得吃. We also tried the former's Durian Snow Ice, of which the flaky snow ice alone (without the help of the puree and durian) was too milky and non-durian-ish. Much prefer Ion's Mei Hong Yuan's. ANYWAY, after eating the durian purée from the respective stalls consecutively, we decided that 糖水先's is better though the purée is slightly on the sweet side. 记得吃's purée is actually nice and not overly sweet, but their durian is too bland and doesn't have the nice bittersweet taste that the other one has.

Durian Overload.

- bought Jones' brioche and smoked salmon again for dinner. The brioche had chocolate chips embedded in it instead of the usual raisins!! It's nice but sadly clashes with the salmon. CHEATED MUCH. roar.

Smile
[info]persmega

- Mimolette is a brunch place that's located right beside Rider's cafe, which I will soon visit to judge whether it lives up to its hype. The interior of Mimo is very interesting- black and white setting with a 2D animation kind of effect (even their candles and chandelier crystals are designed as such, also means that they are fake). BUT the food pales in comparison with its nicely decorated place. I would give their Egg's Ben a 1 out of 7 days. The only redeeming factor would be their vinegrette reduction that drenched the salad companion to the horrible main dish. She also criticized her Egg's florentine (Egg's Ben minus ham plus spinach), and didn't even want to finish them.

Love the Instax by Dax. Poor food though.

- Almost done with my FYP report. *crossing fingers much*.

- the weekend arrived super early this week. TGIF was TGIGF (thank god it's good Friday). And Friday was indeed good.

-White rabbit (4 out of 7 days); my only complain: too expensive! If the price was comparable to Prive's or eM's, then I would have given it six instead. His scrambled eggs were awesome too. Just the right amount of milk- al Dante creaminess. I was super curious about the crepé that was described as "flambéed at your tableside". Oh my gawd the little brown crepe really caught on fire when the woman poured the grand marniér into the frying pan. Delicious.

Crepé Suzette.

- walkathon- we walked for like 2-3 hours in total. It helped to prepare my stomah for 2 medium bags of Garrette Popcorn though. Almost food coma, but didn't. Phew.

- A Chinese Ghost Story was OK. interesting, cheesy, rather humorous. Apparently they modified the original plot; the character that Louis Koo was portraying (originally done by the deceased Leslie Cheung) wasn't supposed to be in love with the demon. But I find these additions gave the story a slightly deeper and more dramatic plot. Nevertheless, I still have to read the subtitles half the time. FAIL.

- Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao was quite bad. I want my Paradise Dynasty!! Speaking of that, I can confidently say I'm one of the bigget buyer of the groupons for PD's xlb. :p

- Had Taste Paradise again coz we were hungry and didn't want to entertain the queue number given to us by Paradise Dynasty at 2pm. Freaking ridiculous, must be the stupid groupon buyers hogging all the seats. 叉烧酥 oh how heavenly you are; forever my favorite dimsum dish.

- stayover was fun! Cooked dinner for her; she brought the ever delightful Pokka Green Milk Tea (Caleb said: eeewwww), which I admit tastes kinda peculiar. But I like. And she said dinner was awesome! :). Fell asleep halfway through ANTM marathon; woke up just in time for the episode that I haven't watched. Dislike Alexandria.

- swimming in the murky water was kinda scary. And felt abit gross too.

- Skinny Pizza was interesting- the crust was like non-existent lah. Virgin consumption of squid ink. Very subtle flavor. Can't really taste it though, I think it just helps to color food black. Anyway, I still prefer a crust on my pizza. Timbre FTW!

- Dont like Domino's pizza no more. Nor their breadstix. Meh

- Just Danced and Rockbaned at her place with her NY friends plus sn. ULTIMATE F-U-N. She and I, the non-dancers fared better than the dancers hahahaha. Technique of waving wiimotes triumphed real life dance skills :p. And he's so cute HAHA. been a while since I actually notice this kinda thing. Have been quite apathetic for the past couple of months. Love the Shoop Shoop Song and Rasputin.

- Love Santouka's Ramen. and everyone is already in Graduation mood even though their exams are like soon-ish, and my fyp deadline is like in less than 2 weeks time. OH FREEDOM HOW I LONG FOR YOU!!

- Spartacus: Blood and Sand is my latest addition to the pile of Tv shows I'm following. Homoerotic much. Sex, fights, blood, boobs, cocks, conspiracy. Society in that era is so amusing, yet kinda scary to live in. And one's social standing couldn't be more important.

- Source Code was not bad. Good actor. But I find the ending rather redundant though. And the show was so short I couldn't finish digging through my second pack of popcorn :x.

- sushi tei's mango roll was YumZ!

- ultimate luck today at Monopoly Deal. Won three out of three rounds. Buy toto wheeeee

Happy Easter!! :D

Holiday
Smile
[info]persmega

- been living a holiday-esque life ever since Wednesday. It felt like my fyp is non-existent.

- MBS was awesome. Skypark. Freezing pool. Booze. Taboo. Saboteur. Drinking poker game.

View from 9th floor

- my 2nd visit to Wild Honey was much better than the first. Their Egg's Ben was nice. 4 out of 7 days. To note was their brioche- it was soft and creamy yet toasted to crunchiness at the edges.

- her last day in Singapore till months later :(. Porn's serves decent Thai cuisine, and a surprisingly yummy durian dessert. 先得来 has better durian purée than 记得吃!except for the block of milky ice hidden underneath the durian goodness. Gonna miss her much.

- scream 4 seemed more like a comedy than thriller. Not in a bad way though. They just managed to deliver fun humor without compromising the thrilling factor of the show. Stab 8. Movie in a movie in a movie HAHA

- homemade Egg's Ben. Too lazy to make the hollandaise. It was rather delicious with Jones the Grocer's raisin brioche, but not so much when replace with Wild Honey's multi-grain brioche. Managed to finish an entire loaf of each for dinner- complete with 180g of smoked salmon and 3 poached eggs. Omg the gluttony. Just had half a loaf of Raisin Bread from the bakery at Isetan Shawhouse. I think I just love the contrast the sweetness of the raisin with the sodium in the smoked salmon. New addiction.

Dinner. Suitable for the lazy bums who refuse to cook.

- KINECT IS DAMN FUN. dance central.

- chef Willin, the man behind Wild Rocket, makes burgers that are as good at his Relish restaurant! The patty is just plain comforting.

Simple, yet delicious.

- coffee bean actually has an eatery branch at MBS shoppe. They have the usual breakfast items, some of which are available whole day long. Salmon bagel with cream cheese is a traditional dish eaten in America, and isn't easy to be found here. Coffee Beanstro's version is damn good!! Their toasted bagel is not hard, the smoked salmon not overly salty and is abundant, the chive sour cream complements the bagel. 6 out of 7 days. And it's only $12.

Beanstro. If only the 313 outlet has this.

- watching a black and white movie was very very interesting! Akin Kurosawa's movies are being shown in retrospective at the National History of Museum till the end of the month. His most celebrated work- Rashomon- is truly a beauty.

- pledged not to order yoghurt when the boss at 313 is around.

- finally had my fill of dimsum at Min Jiang, which is actually located at One North Rohester Park- 3 mins walk from where I live. The dimsum was decent. Though I would rather go to Hua Ting or Taste Paradise anytime for a cheaper but better tasting food. BUT their Durian Glutinous Balls (Mochi) and Durian Pudding are AMAZING. I think I'm just a sucker for durian. 3 out of 7 days. This is considering the value of the food.

Nice ambience. So-so dimsum. Awesome durian creations.
